Rules and Regulations

NEW RULE: There will be a set of cones marking a line in the outfield that all outfielders, other than a "rover" 4th outfielder if a team is playing with 10 fielders, must stay behind until the ball is hit. This will be put in place to prevent "crowding" of the shallow outfield when a female batter is at the plate. This rule will be self-policed and if there is a violation, the captain of the non-violating team should make his or her team's objection known to the captain of the violating team. This rule is put in place to promote good sportsmanship and all players are urged to be good sports and observe this rule.

1.  Number of Players/Rosters
No official rosters are necessary; however, once a student plays for one team, he/she cannot play for any other team for the remainder of the season unless specifically granted permission from LSA Sports.

Only members of the BC Law community may play – students, faculty, staff, family and significant others.

A team must start play with at least 8 players in the field.

A team must have a batting order including at least 8 players.  If a team cannot bat 9 players, each spot in the batting order that cannot be filled will be considered at out.

2.  Co-Ed Requirements
Each team must have at least 2 women and 2 men on the field at all times.

If a team has 3 or more women, the team may play 10 fielders in the field. However, 3 of those fielders must be women.  If a team has only 2 women, it can play no more than 9 players in the field.

For every two male batters, there must be a female batter.  This is best taken care of by having two batting orders – male and female.  2 guys bat, then a girl.

3.  League Scoring
If both teams forfeit for ANY reason, BOTH teams will receive a LOSS.

The winning team captains will be responsible for emailing Loren Sutton to inform him of the score and any game highlights.

All communication will go through team captains.

There will be a single elimination playoff tournament at the end of the season.

4.  Weather
If weather does not permit a game to be played, team captains will be called and/or emailed.  However, we will try and play all scheduled games and a team not showing up due to inclement weather is NOT an excuse and will result in a forfeit if the game wasn’t officially called off.

If, during the course of a game, the game must be stopped due to weather, play will be suspended from that point and the game will be finished at some point during the course of the following week.

5.  Field Rules
All games will be played at Cleveland Circle between 9 am and 1pm, unless otherwise announced or indicated.

Games will be self-umpired.  Please exercise good sportsmanship.  If a close call goes to one team, the next close call should go in favor of the other team.

No inning will be started after 70 minutes after the official start time of the game.

Any throw going by the first or third baseman and then going beyond the fence line extended is 1 extra base for all runners.

All pitches must arch to at least 6 to 12 feet.

There are no walks.  There are no called strikes or balls.  There are no strikeouts, a player will bat until he or she puts the ball in play.

There is no leading or stealing.  A runner can only leave the base on bat contact.

All other playing rules default to ASA official rules.  http://www.asasoftball.com/about/index.asp

All disputes will be resolved, with finality, by LSA Sports.
